MS3 and Poles

Published: 29 September 2023

The Parish Council is aware of the notices that have gone up around the village giving notice that additional telegraph poles will be installed.  The reason for this is that there are businesses trying to create a competitive market for broadband in the area. MS3 are the contractor who are installing new infrastructure for internet service providers such as Connexin to be able to deliver broadband to your property. What is less clear is why there is a need for new poles to be installed when the existing infrastructure, owned by KCOM, could be shared.

Both Ward Councillors are meeting with MS3 next week (w/c 2nd October) and are working with officers at ERYC who are trying to prevent poles being erected in  conservation areas in East Riding.

If you want to find out if your property is in a conservation area then please see the area shaded blue in the map at the bottom of this article and more detailed information can be found on the Planning Constraints Map

Unfortunately it appears that it may only be possible to stop poles being erected on streets in conservation areas or on private land as the government have relaxed permitted development rights, allowing poles to be erected on the highways without planning permission. If you disagree with this situation you can sign the following petition before 6th October, to ask for this to be reviewed.

You may also choose to write to the MP (email david.davis.mp@parliament.uk) or you can complain to OFCOM on 0300 123 3333.

MS3 are not releasing detailed maps showing the location of poles, however if you want to find out if they plan to install a pole in the vicinity of your house, you can email them at community-engagement@ms-3.co.uk requesting this information, as long as you give them your address.
